Walking Among

Flowers, Ferns, and Feathers

I have been a nature wanderer for as long as I can remember. I have always been my best, my most peaceful and joyful just walking around outside. I meander about looking at trees and flowers and rocks and the sky and insects and such. I have always been a walker who brings home treasures. I have dozens of feathers, rocks, leaves, sticks, branches, bird nests, and shells. (Just ask Mark ha!)

The way I choose to enjoy nature as much as possible is by bringing pieces of it into my home.  I set up little “installations” of all my goodies.  It brings all that peace and joy into my living space.

Can you find it?

This little table of rocks and such sits in my living room, right by the chair I sit in to drink my morning tea.  Can you spot:

  • white quartz rock

  • wild turkey feather

  • tiny bird nest still wedged in branches

  • unbleached sand dollar

  • bluebird feather

  • gypsum selenite crystal

  • some kind of chrysalis/cocoon

  • rose quartz rock (given to me by my grandson Oliver)

Heart Rocks

My latest quest is for heart shaped rocks. It is both difficult and enjoyable looking for such a specific part of the natural world.

I have started a heart mandala. I have some man-made hearts that are dear to me on it. You’ll see the little gold locket my mom gave to me for Christmas years ago and the gorgeous tiger eye heart that Ainsley (my granddaughter) and I picked out together. But I really like my three nature-made hearts.  They are definitely not symmetrical or perfect, but they are a wonderful symbols of my imperfect, slightly broken heart.

Mushroom Pictures

Sometimes my favorite things can’t be brought indoors - for instance, mushrooms. Mark and I hiked through a state park yesterday, the day after a torrential, all-day rainfall and spotted so many cool mushrooms. He snapped some great pics. This one is my favorite.
